Colossians 2:6-8 (ESV)
6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him,
7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
Paul’s central passion for believers is that they be:
- Rooted in Christ!
- Built up in Christ!
Satan is laboring to distract this with strategies of:
- Darkness
- Light
2 Corinthians 11:3-4, 14 (ESV)
3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.
4 For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.
14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Inevitably, I find that the level of lukewarm-ness in my heart is in exact proportion to my loss of fascination with the Supremacy of Christ.
Colossians 1:18 (NIV)
18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
In one sense, the Whole of the Christian life is a progressive increase of the Supremacy of Christ filling everything - inside you and outside you.
